Ctenosaura similis
Habitat: inhabits tropical forests, thorny forests, arid grasslands and mangroves.
Diet: Eats especially fruits and legumes, but is also known to have a carnivorous diet consisting of rodents, bats, frogs, small birds, crustaceans, and a variety of insects.
Habits: It is a more terrestrial than arboreal species and very territorial. It lives in colonies governed by a strict hierarchy, with one of the males being the dominant one, who performs territorial displays or moves his head up and down rapidly.
It is interesting that… The young iguanas remain in groups to protect themselves from their predators but one of them temporarily behaves as a leader.
